Small business website builders
What is the best free website builder for a small business?
Heya is a no-code, block-based builder with a $0 plan for 3 sites of up to 5 pages each, and you can start building without an account or a credit card.
For a plumber, cafe or salon that needs one good page with hours, services and contact details, Heya is the best free website builder we tested. You get 3 sites with up to 5 pages each and 68 templates (36 built for local businesses) for $0 with no credit card, and paid plans start from $3 a month. If you already own a domain and want to connect it for $0, Google Sites does that, while Square Online takes payments on its $0 plan.

Heya
Heya is a no-code, block-based builder made for one-page and small websites. You don't need an account or a credit card to start; you open the editor, pick a template and only sign in with Google when you're ready to publish. The free plan gives you up to 3 sites with up to 5 pages each on a name.heya.bio address, and all 68 templates are unlocked, including 36 made for local businesses like plumbers, restaurants, hair salons, dentists and accountants.
The templates already have sections for your business name, service area, phone or booking button, opening hours, service list, photos, reviews and map. You get 42 fonts and 6 embed types, so you can drop in Google Maps or Calendly, and every site is responsive.
There are real limits to know about. You can't use a custom domain on the free plan, and free sites have a small "Made with Heya" badge at the bottom. Heya has no built-in forms or checkout, which means your buttons have to link out to your booking or payment page, and sites top out at 20 pages even when you pay. Pro Lite is from $3 a month for 3 sites, up to 20 pages per site, followed links and no badge. Pro Standard is from $6 a month for up to 5 sites, up to 20 pages per site and 1 custom domain. Pro Plus is from $15 a month for up to 25 sites, up to 10 custom domains, and the option to download your site as an HTML ZIP file (HTML download is only on Pro Plus).
It suits plumbers, salons, cafes and other local trades that want a finished page with hours, a map and a booking link up fast for $0.
Wix
Wix's free plan costs $0 with no credit card and gives you 500 MB of storage and 1 GB of bandwidth at siteprefix.wixsite.com/siteaddress. The catch is the Wix banner ad across the top of your site. Removing it and connecting your own domain takes the Light plan at $17 a month billed yearly, and if you want online payments, basic eCommerce and scheduling, you have to jump to Core at $29 a month billed yearly (we confirmed Wix's prices on October 23, 2026).
It suits a business that expects to grow into full online booking and selling on the same platform and doesn't mind paying later.
Google Sites
If you have a Google account, Google Sites is $0 and publishes at sites.google.com. The standout feature here is domains: as long as your site is public, you can connect up to 5 domains you already own per site for $0. It also works with Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, calendars and maps, though you need a computer to edit your site and you need Google Workspace if you want to buy a new domain through it.
It suits a business that already owns a domain name and wants it live for $0.
Square Online
Square Free is $0 a month and gives you a website builder, SEO tools, pickup, local delivery and shipping on a Square subdomain, with online payments included from the start. You just pay card processing fees on each sale. If you outgrow the free tier, Square Plus is $49 a month per location and Square Premium is $149 a month per location.
It suits shops and restaurants that already run Square in person and want customers to order online.
WordPress.com
WordPress.com has a free plan that doesn't expire, with 1 GB of storage and unlimited pages and posts at yoursite.wordpress.com. Free sites carry WordPress.com ads, and you can't use plugins unless you pay. The Personal plan is $4 a month billed yearly, which drops the ads and includes a free domain for the first year.
It suits a business that wants to publish a blog with lots of posts alongside its main info.
Carrd
Carrd's free plan gives you 3 one-page sites at name.carrd.co with "Made with Carrd" branding. Stepping up to Pro Standard costs $19 a year and gives you up to 10 sites, custom domains, contact and payment forms, and embeds for Stripe, PayPal and Gumroad. The hard limit is in the format: every Carrd site is a single page.
It suits a business that only ever wants one page and wants a custom domain and a contact form for $19 a year.
Squarespace
Squarespace doesn't have a free plan at all, only a 14-day trial. Basic starts at $19 a month billed yearly (or $25 month to month) and lets you take payments, though it charges a 2% fee on online products, services and donations on top of card rates starting at 2.9% + $0.30. Core at $29 a month billed yearly drops that 2% fee to 0%.
It suits businesses with the budget to pay from day one for a site that sells services or products.
